CHIPINGE Town Council on Monday acquired a fire tender worth thousands of dollars through the Private Public Partnership (PPP) programme. The new development is expected to improve the local authority’s preparedness to fight fire outbreaks.

Harare businessman, Mr Peter Lobel and Bakers Inn Bakeries poured some funds and facilitated the importation of the fire engine. Speaking during the handing over ceremony Mr Lobel said: “Slow response to fire outbreaks are still worrisome in the country due to unavailability of resources hence we joined hands with local authorities to source the fire tenders.

“To date, with other partners such as Bakers Inn Bakeries, we have donated to over eight local authorities in the country as part of our social responsibility role. We hope to assist more councils.”

Acting district administrator Mr Tedious Beto, whose department heads the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) committee, commended the local authority for partnering private partners in improving service delivery in the district.

“This is the fruits of public private partnership (PPPs) and on behalf of the CPU we thank all the partners who came on board in assisting the community,” he said.

Chipinge Town Council chairperson Mr Lovemore Huni commended Mr Lobel and Bakers Inn for donating to the community.
