WITH preparations for the 2021-22 season in full swing, at least 39 000 smallholder farmers in Chipinge have received Pfumvudza/Intwasa inputs as many expressed optimism of another bumper harvest on the back of good rains being received in the district.

Chipinge District Agritex officer Mr Tapiwanashe Chagwesha confirmed the development, saying they are targeting 44 000 smallholder farmers.

“We have distributed inputs to 39 000 farmers so far and our goal is to reach 44 000. Going by the rains we have received so far, we looking forward to another successful farming season,” he said.

Mr Chagwesha said local farmers started planting at the onset of the rains.

Chipinge Rural District Ward 13 councillor, Councillor David Dhliwayo, hailed Government for the timeous distribution of the inputs.

Said Cllr Dhliwayo: “The Government has distributed the inputs to the farmers well in time and this is good move we are very grateful for. We hope that the beneficiaries will utilise the inputs they have received well.”

The Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme has transformed the face of agriculture, especially in rural communities as it has increased food and nutrition security while also enhancing livelihoods at household level.
