90-YEAR-OLD Chief Chikore, of Rusape, has dragged his five children to the civil court seeking a protection order to bar them from visiting his home and business premises citing several acts of misconduct.

Chief Chikore, born Dennis Mushamba Chikore, accused his five children – Moyosvi, Tichaenda, Prisca, Winnet and Gloria – of physically and verbally assaulting him and his second wife, among other transgressions.

The Chikores are sons-in-law to former President Cde Robert Mugabe.

The ageing traditional leader, who was represented by Mr Leonard Chigadza, of Chigadza and Associates Legal Practitioners, also alleged that the five defendants were unnecessarily interfering with his recent marriage.

In the application for protection order Chief Chikore expressed his intrinsic desire to have them completely banished from his family homestead and business premises.

Moyosvi, Tichaenda, Prisca, Winnet and Gloria were not represented when they appeared in court and vehemently opposed the issuance of the order.

Magistrate Ms Rufaro Mangwiro presided over the matter.

The five children denied ever assaulting and insulting him.

They begged the court not to grant the protection order saying they hold their father in high esteem and will continue to respect and love him as their father though he and their mother were divorced.

The defendants also raised a red flag in court, arguing that there were ‘elements around him’ that were abusing and taking advantage of the traditional leader’s advanced age to alienate him from his close relatives, including them.

However, the be-spectacled Chief Chikore was adamant and insisted that he no longer has anything to do with his erstwhile children and their mother.

He said he separated with the five’s mother about 20 years ago.

The alleged divorce was, however, not legally endorsed by the High Court.

Ms Mangwiro this week threw out the traditional leader’s application arguing that it was absurd to bar his own children from visiting him.
