A MUTARE prison officer who allegedly attacked rival suitors at a local bar sometime in August walked out of court a free man this week after assault charges were withdrawn against him.
Curious Dhamu (31) who is stationed at Mutare Farm Prison had denied the four counts of assault when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Tracy Muzondo.
Prosecuting was Mr Cuthbert Bhosha.
It had been alleged that on August 25, at around 1am, Dhamu teamed up with his unidentified six friends and demanded to see Charity Nherera who was in the company of her uncle, Norman Goche and his wife.
Dhamu claimed that Nherera was his girlfriend.
He is alleged to have struck Nherera once with a broken empty bottle on the right hand and right leg.
Nherera sustained a deep cut on her right hand.
“Dhamu went on to assault Nherera’s boyfriend, Louis Mhembere. He stabbed him with a knife near the right ear. Nherera also sustained a deep cut as a result of the assault.
“Nherera’s uncle, Goche who was trying to stop the fight was left with a deep cut on his left hand after he was stabbed with a broken bottle by Dhamu.
“He further stabbed Clever Chiutsi beside the mouth with the same knife that he had used to stab Mhembere,” said Mr Bhosha.
Chiutsi is also alleged to be one of Nherera’s boyfriends.
Asked on why they were withdrawing the charges, the four complainants, Charity Nherera, Louis Mhembere, Norman Goche and Clever Chiutsi said they had forgiven Dhamu and had not been forced by anyone to withdraw them.
