MUTARE Pool League Champions League preparatory tournament will bring together six teams in a potentially exciting clash set for tomorrow (Saturday) at the city’s citadel of the game of snooker, Villa Spot in Dangamvura.

Next Saturday, Mutare will host the prestigious Champions League Snooker Tournament for the first time since its inception, with six top Mutare Pool League clubs set to represent Manicaland Province in a competition that brings together top teams from all the provinces across the country.

Tomorrow’s preparatory six team tournament which will feature Rozvie Empire, Beolopas, Soul City, Snipers, Beer Gardens and hosts, Villa Spot, is meant to give the eastern border city representatives in the national Champions League competition enough practice ahead of the national event.

The draw will be conducted today (Friday) at 4pm, while the competition matches kick-off at 10am tomorrow. Trinity Mukwapati, the Mutare Pool League man in charge of development, told Post Sport that all is set for the six teams preparatory competition.

“We are excited with the zeal and enthusiasm within the participating teams, the six of them. They are aware of the task at hand. They will be representing, not only the city, but the province in next weekend’s Champions League competition.

“Therefore, Saturday’s competition is important for them to get a picture of their strengths and weaknesses before they turn up for the main event next week,’ said Mukwapati.

The Champions League Tournament brings together the top four teams from nine other provinces around the country, while the hosting province – in this case Manicaland – has the privilege of fielding two more clubs.

The tournament is set for next Saturday and Sunday at Villa Spot.

Meanwhile, in the Tagaz Open Men Tournament played in a Race to Five format at Tagaz Pool Joint last week on Saturday, Johannes ‘Butsu’ Mudihwo ruled the roost to claim top position, while Tatenda Chikara settled for second position.

Godfrey ‘Jumanji’ Takumana came third, while Talent ‘Falcon’ Pandukai was fourth placed.
