A SECURITY guard with Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in Chiadzwa, Marange was arrested for allegedly stealing five pieces of diamond from the processing plant unit.
Tanaka Chinefu (23) has since appeared at Mutare Magistrates’ Court charged with theft. He admitted to stealing the precious stones when he appeared before magistrate Tendai Mahwe, who remanded him in custody to today (Friday) for sentencing.
The State led by Mr Chris Munyuku had it that on April 10, 2019, at around 6pm the 23-year-old was working on the processing plant unit — XRT machine.
He was picking and processing diamonds along with other workmates.
He was also entrusted to ensure that the other employees do not also steal.
While executing his duties, Chinefu spotted five pieces of diamonds on the floor.
He picked and hid them in his trousers’ left pocket.
Another ZCDC employee who was monitoring the CCTV detected Chinefu while picking the pieces of diamonds and alerted the mine security details.
Chinefu was then arrested and taken to court charged with theft.
He will know his fate when magistrate Mahwe sentences him today.
