THE parents of a 10-year-old boy from Mt Jenya who is suffering from a retroperitoneal stomach tumour are appealing for financial assistance from well-wishers in order to have him undergo a medical review at Harare Central Hospital.

Martin Usada (10) needs to raise $500 for the review which is supposed to be paid in full before he undergoes the medical procedure. He also needs financial assistance in terms of food as he needs a balanced diet. Martin has been battling for his life since November last year when he suffered from constipation resulting in the enlargement of his abdomen. He was in Grade Four then. A wedge biopsy was taken at Harare Central Hospital and a diverting colostomy and a vesicostomy were put on his stomach because the tumour was causing obstruction and blocking the movement of his waste and urine.

The tumour is retroperitoneal and was extending to just below the umbilicus. One of the tubes was later removed because it was blocking the circulation of waste. Speaking to The Manica Post, Martin’s mother, Mrs Prisca Samunetsi, said the condition had greatly affected Martin’s life as he has stopped going to school and moans in pain daily.

She said Martin is supposed to have gone for review in June, but due to financial constraints, he has not gone yet.

“The condition is not favourable at all. The other tube was removed and now he passes waste from the stomach. He no longer walks and we do everything for him. We appeal to the nation to hear our plight and help us raise funds for Martin so that he goes back for review, and probably one day go back to school with his peers,” she said.

Well-wishers can deposit the money on Samunetsi’s Ecocash account number 0776 808 628 or POSB bank account number, 112310014162, account holder, Paul Usada.
