The business community in Manicaland has been urged to work with Government in the re-industrialisation drive and adhere to fair business practices.

Speaking at a workshop to perfect the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy (ZNIDP) draft policy (2024 to 2030), Secretary for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Abiot Maronge who was represented by Deputy Director in his office, Mr Past-tense Tarondwa, said the province needs to give serious attention to its localised blueprints.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce is currently conducting nationwide consultations on the ZNIDP draft which was recently launched by Minister Sithembiso Nyoni.

“Manicaland Province is recovering from more than two decades of de-industrialisation as a result of company closures from the Year 2000. The province used to be a strong manufacturing hub and contributed significantly to the growth of the national economy, formal employment and foreign currency generation.

“In line with Government’s devolution agenda, it is prudent for us as a province to also give serious attention to our own localised blueprints, in order to stimulate economic growth and the development of Manicaland.

“I call upon the business community to adhere to fair business practices so that consumers are protected. For the economy’s quick turn-around, there is need for all of us to cooperate through supporting local industries and buying locally manufactured goods,” he said.

Deputy Director (Commerce) in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Mr Enias Muradzvi, said the workshop was a platform for the ministry to get feedback from all stakeholders and perfect the policy document.
