A MUTARE man recently destroyed his ex-wife’s cabin house as he tried to rekindle their love.

The jilted Lloyd Chando appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala for damaging his ex-wife, Joyce Chidhindi’s cabin in Sakubva.

The court heard that Chindindi left Chando due to his love of the bottle.

Mr Thurstone Mubvumbi prosecuted.

Chando said he will never give up on the love and affection that he has for his wife despite their love hitting turbulent waters.

“The initial plan was to talk to my wife and apologise for the mistakes that I have been making of late. But Joyce (Chidhindi) made it difficult for me and I lost my temper. I became aggressive and assaulted her. I also destroyed the cabin house she was staying in.

“My wife left our matrimonial house saying she was done with my love for beer. I let her leave thinking that time would heal us and that we would find each other.

“However, this has not happened. When I went to her parents’ house to look for her so that we could settle our differences, I realised that she had moved out of her parents’ house to stay alone in OTS Section of Sakubva. I tracked her down and tried to talk to her,” said Chando.

He added: “We failed to find common ground because I think she has found someone better than me. I am prepared to give her money to repair the damaged cabin as she currently has nowhere to stay.”

Chando said Chidhindi is yet to give him a divorce token as proof that it is over between them.

In response, Chidhindi said she is fed up with Chando’s behaviour, hence her decision to move out.

“He does not respect me when drunk. He makes a lot of noise, forcing me to apologise to our neighbours whenever he has one too many. He assaults me and I cannot continue visiting the police station to lodge complaints against him. I am also the one who usually bails him out after his misdemeanours.

“He was drunk when he destroyed my cabin. He also labelled me a woman of loose morals. He believes I moved out because I wanted space to enjoy life with a new lover, but my actions were motivated by the desire of lead a peaceful life,” said Chidhindi.

Ms Makala sentenced Chando to six months in prison, of which two months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The other four months were suspended on condition that Chando pays US$200 for the damaged cabin.
