MUTARE-based businessman Mr Lovemore Mandimutsira raised the Manicaland flag high after he scooped the national Social Development Goal and Community Impact Award at the national Community Social Responsibility awards ceremony held last Thursday in Harare.
Mr Mandimutsira, who is the director of Zimbabwe Africa Trust, was honoured for championing community responsibility programmes in Manicaland.
Africa Trust, whose mission is to offer sustainable solutions to poverty through provision of clean water, sanitation and educating the vulnerable in the community, has empowered folks in Mutare, Nyanga, Mutasa and Makoni districts among others through offering them grants to partake in self-sustainable projects.
It is a non-profit-making organisation that has offered water and sanitation solutions through rehabilitation of wells and boreholes in Makoni, Mutasa, Mutare and Nyanga.
They offer communities some grants to venture intp horticulture, cattle rearing, poultry and goat rearing among others.
They have empowered communities by offering them free project training and starter packs to ensure business continuity.
This has largely transformed lives of communities that are doing well in eradicating poverty and the dependence syndrome.
Mr Mandimutsira said they continue to empower communities through improving water supply and sanitation.
“I feel honoured to have been recognised by a reputable organisation like this. We are a team of hard workers who always strive to do better every time.
“We never thought we would excel in the national competition and this motivates us to work even harder.
“We will continue to make an impact in our society. We believe the reason why we continue shining is because of excellent relationships we have with our clients and communities we live in,” said Mr Mandimutsira.
