Bush locks: The latest craze

The ManicaPost

Ann ruthenburg Fashion Diva
Hello Mutare, I am so excited with the feedback we are getting from the makeovers we are doing. I cannot wait to showcase our next makeover which is from a man. Yes, even men need makeovers. Everyone deserves another chance and everyone has a story. Here we tell your story while showing you that your situation is not who you are. You can look and feel the best that you can, by making a decision. Message the Fashion Diva if you want a makeover and if you have a story to tell that we can use to give someone out there courage to face each day.

In the meantime, I cannot ignore my faithful readers who diligently send questions. So in-between these makeovers I may have to answer a relevant question or two.

Today I am talking about bush locks. Yes, bush locks are the latest craze for people with kinky or tightly curly hair. Both men and women are favouring this easy to go hairstyle which is the equivalent to the wash and go hair style.

Bush locks are unique in that they are as easy to maintain as an afro. But with this natural looking hair style comes a few issues. If you treat your locks as a wash and go hairstyle, it could look extremely messy depending on your hair type. Doing your bush locks at home might not come out as neat and stylish as the case would be if done by a professional.

My best advice for anyone with bush locks or anyone wanting them is:

Find the right oil for your locks and use it at least twice per week. Bush locks without oil in the hair will knot and break in no time. Have you not seen people with patches in their hair?

You do not have to wash your hair every day, but for the locks to look attractive, they have to be worked on at least twice a week. My suggestion is that invest in a water spray bottle for your hair. Spray your hair with water each time you need to redo your bush locks and then dry it as if locking with a towel, t-shirt or brush.

Shape your hair. I have seen many women, and not so many men, with locks all over their head like an afro. That tells me the individual is simply finding a non- maintenance hairstyle and not a stylish one. It does not take long to shape one’s hairstyle. A good barber will be able to give shape and shade to your bush locks style. A good bush lock style will have parts of the head shaved or shaded.

Bush locks need to be kept short, otherwise they become dreadlocks. The longest bush locks should be under two inches. Above that length you need to decide whether you want dreadlocks or single plaits. Also about two inches your hair will start to twist into a proper lock and tangle.

Some colour would be nice. It is safe to put colour in your hair before locking it. Whether you darken your hair with black, or lighten it with brown, blonde, Mahogany, Maroon or ginger, a head with colour is always attractive.

Well, that’s it from me this week folks, keep messaging me with your makeover requests or everyday health and beauty questions. God Bless.

Remember if you are a Christian, this is Easter week where we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are free to live a healthy and prosperous life because Jesus made the exchange on the Cross, so enjoy the eggs, but remember why we celebrate it. HAPPY EASTER!
