VILLAGERS in Buhera West have received training in cash crop farming in a move expected to increase household food and nutrition security while enhancing rural livelihoods.

The Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB) is spearheading the initiative also aimed at empowering rural communities.

Buhera West MP Cde Saul Nzuma said most villagers have shown interest in the programme and those trained will soon receive inputs to kick start their projects.

The farmers will produce sesame, among other crops.

“In our constituency we are gearing towards empowering our communities through farming. This is intended to achieve food security and improve rural livelihoods in line with President Mnangagwa’s thrust towards achieving Vision 2030 through the National Development Strategy (NDS1).

“We are prepared to complement these efforts by the Government to develop the nation. Farming will drive our agro-based economy, and we are playing our part to achieve that end,” said Cde Nzuma.

He thanked ZWMB for partnering rural communities and coming up with programmes that promote empowerment and development.
