FIVE people — including three siblings — last week ganged up and fatally stabbed an imbiber after a heated argument during a beer binge in Chipinge.

The three brothers, Learnmore, Witness and Charles Dube and two unknown men allegedly took turns to stab Tinashe Nyika (28) with sharp objects all over the body until he died.

Nyika was confirmed dead upon admission at St Peter’s Mission Hospital in Chisumbanje after sustaining severe injuries.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident which happened at Rimbi Business Centre.

“The now late Tinashe Nyika was drinking beer at Rimbi Business Centre in the company of his brother, Janson Nyika (33). On their way home after the binge, they passed through a vegetable market and met the five suspects who were drinking beer at that market.

“The deceased attempted to join the five, but they chased him away. An altercation ensued between the deceased and the five, but Janson refrained them.

“The five left for their respective homes while Tinashe and Janson also parted ways and went to their homes.

“After about a kilometre, the deceased saw the five along the Rimbi-Mwangazi Road and ran towards them. He started a fight and he was beaten by the five. Having realised that he had been overpowered, Tinashe bolted from the scene,” said Inspector Muzondo.

He said the accused persons who were armed with sharp objects caught up with Tinashe and stabbed him on the left side of the chest, once on the right shoulder and once on the stomach.

“Janson heard Tinashe screaming for help and he rushed to the scene. He found him bleeding excessively and took him to Rimbi Clinic using an ox-drawn cart. Tinashe was transferred to St Peter’s Mission Hospital where he died upon arrival,” said Inspector Muzondo.

The five suspects vanished from the scene soon after committing the heinous crime.

“We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station. We continue to urge people to desist from being violent,” he said.
