DANGAMVURA brothers who teamed up and assaulted their neighbour with golf sticks after he had allegedly insulted their sister-in-law were arraigned before the courts.

Zephania (27) and Paurosi Imbayago (21) denied both counts of assault they were facing when they appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura last Thursday.

They were remanded to October 20, 2016. Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted. It was alleged that Brian Dengura was on his way home when he was confronted by the brothers who asked him why he had insulted their sister-in-law. Zephania is alleged to have grabbed Dengura by the waist resulting in him falling down.

“Dengura managed to escape and sought refuge at a nearby house, but the pair pursued him and forcibly opened the door.

“They dragged him out of the house and Zephania lifted Dengura and threw him to the ground. While he was still lying on the ground, Paurosi hit him on his head several times with a golf stick,” said Mr Karombe.

It was further alleged that the pair went on to assault Dengura on his back using the front side of a shovel. Dengura sustained a cut on the back side of his head and another on his back. In his defence, Zephaniah told the court that he was the one who was assaulted by Dengura.

He said the golf stick and shovel belonged to Dengura. The State further alleged that Zephania and Paurosi Imbayago also assaulted Dengure’s friend, Courage Satande who was trying to save his friend. The State alleged that they used a golf stick and handcuffs to assault Satande’s arms leaving him swollen.

Paurosi also denied both assault charges and said he was only restraining Dengure and Satande from assaulting his brother. He, however, told the court that Dengure was in the habit of proposing love to his sister-in-law even though he knew that she was married.

Mrs Chiundura told the pair that the court does not force people to plead guilty and that a full trial would be conducted to ascertain the truth. She, however, warned them to brace for a stiffer penalty for wasting the court’s time if they are to be found guilty at the end of the trial.
