A MUTARE teenager feels short-changed by his brother whom he accuses of spending money from the rentals of their parents’ house on drugs without paying schools fees for him.

Tafadzwa Mapango (16) blamed his brother, Lucky Mapango (29) for turning the house into a drug den as he always invites his friends over to indulge.

This has created disputes, forcing the siblings to seek recourse at the Mutare Civil Courts where the former was seeking a protection against the latter.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato heard the matter.

Tafadzwa told the court that Lucky is failing to be his keeper and is denying him and the other brother who stays in Harare the privilege to benefit from the house their late father bequeathed to them.

Tafadzwa accused Lucky of harassing him each time he asks for his share of the rentals.

“Your Worship, we have been staying at this house together with my brother for eight months and I have only received rentals for one month, yet we had agreed to an equal share.

“Attempts to resolve the issue have been unsuccessful as Lucky turns violent,” said Tafadzwa, adding: “He is always high and calls the shots at the house as all the tenants are under his control.

“He spends the money on marijuana and never bothers to pay for my school fees.

“This is badly affecting me as I am sent away to collect the fees and miss lessons.”

However, Lucky sang a different tune and dismissed his brother’s accusations as lies, saying the tenants can bear testimony that they both receive rentals.

He was adamant that Tafadzwa gets his share.

They both depend on the rentals as he is not employed.

In his ruling, Mr Chipato granted the protection order in Tafadzwa’s favour.

He ordered Lucky to clear all the school fees arrears for his brother by December 31 and ensure that the money is shared equally among the three siblings with peace prevailing.

“You must all be responsible by using the rentals wisely and taking care of each other,” ruled Mr Chipato.
