THREE people were killed while nine others were seriously injured when an overtaking kombi they were aboard was involved in an accident with a haulage truck near Rusape tollgate this evening.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the accident and said the bodies were taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary.
Inspector Muzondo said the survivors, who sustained various degrees of injuries, were rushed to Rusape General Hospital by motorists and ambulances.
“I can confirm that three people died on the spot when a kombi that was Harare-bound was involved in an accident with a haulage truck as it tried to overtake another vehicle at a sharp curve before the Rusape tollgate.
“The kombi had about 12 passengers on board and it was straddled by the truck, trapping the passengers in the process,” said Inspector Muzondo.
The surviving passengers were rescued by the Rusape Fire Brigade.
