PERENNIAL water challenges at Nyamhuka Primary in Nyanga District are set to ease following the drilling and installation of a borehole at the school recently.

The borehole was sunk with the assistance of a local benefactor who has chosen to remain anonymous.

Ward 29 councillor, Councillor Talkmore Nyamakanga, hailed the development, saying it has brought huge relief and will go a long way in benefitting the school.

He said there had been no source of clean and safe water at Nyamhuka Primary for the past 15 years.

The school and villagers in the surrounding area had resorted to fetching unclean water from unsafe sources, thereby exposing them to the danger of contacting water-borne diseases like cholera, diarrhoea and typhoid, Cllr Nyamakanga added.

With a constant supply of water now assured, the school is also expected to embark on garden and agricultural projects for livelihoods.

Nyamhuka Primary has an enrolment of 1 585 pupils, with a staff complement of 45 teachers and six ancillary workers.
