MOTORSPORT bikers’ club — the Zimfreeriders Motor Cycle Club (Zimfreeriders MCC) has mapped out an ambitious domestic tourism promotion drive through biking display shows, theatrics and stunts and will this year host a national bikers’ rally in Manicaland.

Zimfreeriders MCC hopes to use their influence to whet appetite for domestic tourism and enhance community welfare through charity and corporate social responsibility.

Secretary general, Samuel ‘Scott’ Mudiwa, who hails from the province, said following his election at the club’s Annual General Meeting last year, his foremost task is membership recruitment and organising a local biking rally.

Mudiwa revealed that a strategic executive meeting to set the 2021 calendar has already approved a rally which passes through Mutare, where local motorsport and biking fans will experience a showcase of biking theatrics and stunts.

“Our inaugural executive meeting has already drawn the 2021 calendar and in the process approved a rally for Manicaland.

“While the final route is being finalised, preliminary suggestions indicate the rally will pass through Mutare and proceed to Masvingo in the first or second quarter of the year,” he said.

“ZimFree Riders is redefining biking in Zimbabwe using this version of motorsport to promote domestic tourism and provide social protection services to vulnerable members of the community through charity,” said Mudiwa.

He said motorsport can revolutionise domestic tourism as it provide a unique opportunity to explore the nation’s unparalleled natural endowments and positively impact on lives of vulnerable members of the society.

“As local people, we need to start travelling locally and enjoying the beauty of country.

“We are geared to recruit new members in Manicaland and also set up a bikers rally so that bikers from across the country can come to our province and also visit the majestic places we have here,” said Mudiwa.

The club hosts two flagship events every year, the Victoria Falls and Kariba runs where motorcyclists ride showcasing their special skills, with proceeds and raised funds donated to charity for local orphans and vulnerable persons.

“Wherever we go showcasing our skills we have to leave a mark which is not only the excitement and the thrills of riding and stunts, but something that touches local people.

“Our rallies are therefore uniquely designed to ensure that we raise funds for orphans, vulnerable or those in needy.

“This is one of the primary objectives of the rallies.

“In 2021, we will organise a rally for Manicaland where we will also raise funds for the vulnerable who will be identified with the help of the local leadership. This way we will ensure that we also ignite local passion for biking,” said Mudiwa.

Zimfreeriders MCC also has chapters in Harare, Kwekwe, Bulawayo and Hwange.
