A FALL-OUT between a Mutare woman and her son spilled into the courts of law recently, with the former applying for a protection order against her son.
The son stands accused of calling his mother by her first name, as well as dating women that are older than his mother.
Mary Mwatsika of Natview Park in Mutare also says her son, Ephraim Nemauko, is disturbing her peace.
“My son dates ladies that are older than me. He brings them into my matrimonial house and sleeps with them on my bed when I am away. When I question him over this he insults me.
“I have tried in vain to stop him from doing all these things, but this has been falling on deaf ears. He also sells my property,” said Mwatsika.
She also said Nemauko has labelled her a witch.
“He recently told me that I am a witch. He told me that a prophet told him that. He said he had visited the prophet for spiritual deliverance when he was told that I am witch,” she said.
Mwatsika also told the court that she wants Nemauko to be barred from visiting her house.
However, Nemauko accused his mother of lying.
He said since the separation of his parents, his mother has been ill-treating him.
“It all began when I was still dating my wife. My mother was against our relationship and threatened to hang herself if I married her. I ignored her threats and married my wife since I love her.
“After some months, she chased me away from home and I went to stay with my wife in Dangamvura. After some time, I received a call from my mother saying she was not feeling well. My wife and l visited her. We stayed with her until she recovered.
“While we were staying with her, my friend and his wife also came to assist us in taking care of her. Upon her recovery, she accused my friend and his wife of sleeping on her bed. She filed a police report against them.
“She later changed her statement, saying she had lied against them because she hates them and wanted them out of her house. Surprisingly she is now telling this court that I am the one who slept on her bed,” said Nemauko.
He said his father has failed to settle the dispute between the two of them.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato granted the protection order in Mwatsika’s favor.
Nemauko was ordered not to insult, harass or visit his mother for the purposes of disturbing her peace.
He was told to maintain peace with his mother at all times.
