TWO armed robbers pounced on a Nyanga guest house last week on Saturday and made good their escape with cash and a smartphone, all valued at US$600.
Mrs Precious Chaumba is lucky to be alive after she over-powered the robbers and stormed out of the guest house crying for help.
The armed robbers then vanished from the scene.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident.
“On April 16, at around 7pm, two unknown male adults robbed Mrs Chaumba, the director of Nyanga Town Guest House. The two went to Mrs Chaumba’s guest house armed with a suspected firearm and a knife. They broke the reception’s front door which was locked and gained entry. Once inside, they went to Mrs Chaumba’s bedroom.
“Mrs Chaumba was not in the room as she was attending to some guests outside. After the guests had paid her US$190, she went to her bedroom and bumped into the robbers.
“One of the robbers tried to silence her, while the other one grabbed her apron and snatched the money she was holding. The robbers demanded for more money from her.
“However Mrs Chaumba overpowered them and ran out through the kitchen door. As she cried out for help, the accused people bolted from the scene. Mrs Chaumba discovered that her smartphone was missing when she tried to phone the police.
“She drove to Nyanga Police Station to file a report. The smartphone was valued at US$410 and hence total value lost was US$600. Mrs Chaumba did not sustain any injuries,” said Inspector Muzondo.
He urged members of the public to improve their security systems by installing alarm systems and burglar bars, as well as employing security guards.
“We have since launched a man-hunt to bring the culprits to book. We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station,” said Inspector Muzondo.
