TWO armed robbers allegedly attacked a taxi driver who was parked at a business center in Chipinge and escaped with the pirate taxi valued at US$6000.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident which occurred on August 13.
The victim Nyasha Matanda (39), of Maronga Primary School, was at Kondo Business Center seated in his Honda Fit when the criminals pounced.
He plies the Chipinge-Kondo route.
The victim was approached by two unknown accused persons who asked him to take them to Tongogara Refugee Camp.
“He charged them $50 and one of the accused persons occupied the front seat while his colleague sat at the back.
“After some distance the one who was on front ordered the driver to stop and pretended to be searching for mobile network saying he wanted to pay using Ecocash,” he said.
He went outside the vehicle and pulled out a piston from his pocket. The other suspect who was seated at the back seat also followed suit and pulled a piston.
The armed pair then ordered Matanda off the steering.
They ordered him to occupy the passengers’ seat.
The armed robbers searched Matanda and took $84 from him.
The armed robbers drove towards Farm 50 Green Fuel, before dumping Matanda along the way.
They drove off towards the Tanganda-Ngundu road.
The case was reported to Middle Sabi police who attended the scene and investigations are still in progress.
Insp Kakohwa appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
