A MUTARE couple’s marriage is on the verge of collapse following the husband’s alleged promiscuous behaviour and violent tendencies.

Violet Mudowaya last week approached Mutare Civil Courts seeking a protection order against Clemence Mukoko whom she said is in the habit of insulting her whenever she confronts him over his extra-marital affairs.

She said whenever Mukoko is castigated over his unruly behaviour, he chases her away from their matrimonial home in Gimboki, Dangamvura.

“He shouts at me and sometimes chases me away from our matrimonial home, especially if I try to knock some sense into his head. He has been cheating on me for some time and whenever I confront him, a misunderstanding ensues. We stay together in Gimboki and he chased me away from the house last week, hence my application for the protection order,” she said.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, granted a default judgement as Mukoko did not turn up for the court hearing. Mr Chipato ordered Mukoko to desist from harassing, insulting and assaulting Mudowaya.

Mudowaya also applied for $30 000 maintenance for the upkeep of the couple’s three children aged eight, 10 and 16.

She said Mukoko is a taxi driver with a fleet of cars that give him about US$6 700 per month.

“I am a vendor that doesn’t earn much. I earn about US$20 per month. He is a taxi driver and has several taxis. He can afford to pay the $30 000 every month. I don’t know if he has other children,” said Mudowaya.

Mr Chipato ordered Mukoko to pay $25 000 every month.
