. . . as killer stepmother returns to make indications

THERE was drama in Mutare’s Hobhouse high-density suburb last Friday after angry residents mobbed a police vehicle which had transported an infamous step-mother back to her house indicate the different locations from where she allegedly murdered  her husband’s six-year-old daughter in cold blood.

As Tendai Happiness Bwanya (45) of House Number 318, Hob-House 1 — who is awaiting trial for the murder of Rumbudzai Ndoro — arrived at her house clad in prison garb in the company of three police officers, scores of residents quickly gathered and started singing derogatory songs.

Neighbours who witnessed the incident said the cops quickly whisked her into the house through a back door, avoiding the angry mob that wanted to mete out instant justice on her.

So tense was the situation that residents later vented their anger on the police vehicle which had its rear bumper damaged.

“When they got into the house we saw Bwanya making indications to the cops pertaining the murder. One of the police officers was taking notes and making some sketches in a book. They spent some time in the yard before they came out headed for their vehicle.

“At that point, angry residents had circled the police truck blocking them from exiting but they later paved way for the investigating officers and the suspect to board the vehicle.

“As the vehicle drove off towards a nearby police post, residents ran in pursuit shouting obscenities towards Bwanya who was seated at the back,” said a neighbour who requested anonymity.

Again, residents besieged the police post, prompting the officers to take the suspect to Chikanga Police Station away from the marauding crowd.

Bwanya is alleged to have grisly attacked her step-daughter with an axe handle before forcibly inserting a vibrator in the girl’s private parts in a futile attempt to present the minor as a rape victim.

Friday’s chaos follows the same events that happened at the girl’s funeral where residents protested against the heartless killing by burning Bwanya’s property.

The irate residents also blamed the deceased’s father, Richard Ndoro for failing to reign over his abusive lover. During burial they threatened to assault Ndoro alleging that he had sacrificed the life of his child because of a woman.
