And now for 2018 resolutions . . .

The ManicaPost

ESTEEMED followers of the game of football, thank you for finding time for interaction.

January, the month that ushers in the New Year, is in full flight and touches down next Monday. It is around that time during which we pronounce decisions and declarations as New Year’s resolutions and assert they will run until December and, therefore, shape and define the next 12 months of each year.

So with 2018 peeping on us, Yours Truly has made up his mind and shall walk the talk; practising what he preaches so to speak. We will keep our resolutions only a few – just a pair – and very simple for easy monitoring and strict adherence to.

It is no secret that Friday Football Echoes’ heart beats to everything football so much so that we shall seek a deeper, fuller, finer and meaningful understanding of the game we discuss in this space every week. Enrolling for a football course would, therefore, not be such a bad idea. Because we find it utterly remiss to be only enthusiasts who are mad about the game but whose grip on and knowledge about it runs shallow and little, it is prudent and makes loads of sense to become as competent as we can be or as is required.

Before 2018 would have hardly grown any legs, Friday Football Echoes will clock two solid years of running in this choice corner of your favourite newspaper. Just so we do not overstay our welcome, which we have deeply cherished for nearly the past 24 months, the ink on Gamechanger’s quill will run dry. A decision to that effect has already been made and we will not be pushing the pen anymore in this pace – it is time to pass on the baton because this marathon requires we relay the stick.

Put simply, we are getting to repurpose the column. Compliments of the new season, followers of the game of football, and we at Friday Football Echoes wish you a blessed and blissful 2018.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It’s Game On, Play On!

Feedback:

FC Platinum have plans to reach the group stages in the [CAF] Champions League. I am a CAPS United fan and would like to advise the champions that CL matches are highly technical. Most of the teams that play in this completion have very good players. FC Platinum have the resources they can use to acquire a top midfielder and striker; they should look for the players regionally. What I observed during my favourite team’s participation in this tournament last term is that teams should have depth on the bench. Away matches are usually a disaster for Zimbabwean teams and coaches have to fight for draws. Tawanda Mhlanga, Dangamvura.

As it stands right now, Zifa as an institution do not owe anyone a cent. The costs were inflated and its coffers emptied to pass the debt burden to the nation with the hope that the Government or FIFA would chip in and pay the debtors. Zifa should deal with its mess without worrying us. Richard Mahuhushe Chauke.
