GOVERNMENT is ready host plus 70 000 guests expected for this year’s Independence Day commemorations to be held at Murambinda B High School in Buhera, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.

In an interview on the sidelines of the President’s Children’s Party held at Murambinda A Primary School yesterday, Dr Muswere said Government was satisfied with institutional, organisational and financial resource mobilisation done ahead of the event.

Dr Muswere extended an invitation to religious organisations and political institutions, including opposition parties for the 44th Independence Day commemorations.

He said gates will be open by 6am.

“We are happy with the level of preparedness for the 44th Independence Day commemorations to be held here tomorrow (Thursday). Everything is in place, and as Government, we are happy with the institutional, organisational and financial resource mobilisation done ahead of the event.

“We are saying that this independence is for all Zimbabweans, hence all are welcome, including religious, traditional and political players, and this also includes opposition parties. Gates will be open by 6am. We are extremely happy that the food and transport logistical issues are already in place,” said Dr Muswere.

The Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister said the legacy in infrastructural development underlines the national philosophy of leaving no place and no person behind.

“As we can all see, there has been major infrastructure developments in this area as we prepared for the 44th Independence Day celebrations. This will be a legacy that this national event will leave behind in this area. This dovetails into the national philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind. People can see the importance of decentralisation of these events, something that augurs well with Government’s devolution agenda. This is also something we learnt and understood from our President His Excellency, Dr Mnangagwa, and we will continue traversing on that path as a Government,” he said.

Apart from the main Independence Day commemorations programme line up, attendees will also be treated to a potentially explosive football encounter pitting two of the biggest football institutions – Dynamos and Highlanders.

Dr Muswere said: “I am sure by now people are aware that we will be having a football match pitting Dynamos and Highlanders. It is a match that every football lover would not want to miss in this country, football being the most loved sport in this country. So we are expecting to have a day to remember during these 44th Independence Day commemorations here in Murambinda, Buhera.”
