THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services have vowed to come out tops and continue with their dominance in the traditional music scene when they face off other groups at the Chibuku Neshamwari Manicaland provincial finals to be held at Dzonzayi Complex in Chipinge tomorrow (Saturday).

Two ZPCS groups to compete in the annual competitions are Echoes Arts Group and Mansa Mutare.

The organisation has every reason to sing its own praises and presage their victory after another ZPCS outfit, Chivaraidze’s exceptional and well-choreographed acts earned them top position in last year’s edition.

The event is meant to celebrate Zimbabwe’s own cultural values and heritage.

In an interview, ZPCS Manicaland public relations officer Liberty Mhlanga said: “We have mainstreamed arts as a vehicle for rehabilitating offenders. Inmates and officers engaged in the arts are doing it on full-time basis. We are happy with the results and we are upbeat that we will make it in Chipinge. We are a force to reckon with. We have done well in the past and we will continue to dominate,” he said.

Other groups expected to perform are Holland Nyaututwa (muchongoyo), Maronga (traditional dance), Paiyapo (traditional dance), Changazi (traditional dance), Mudhara Mutasa (Ben Arinoti), Maungwe Traditional Group, Dhumatasangana (mbende), Chinyauhwera Traditional Group and Mutare Rural (chimaisiri).

Those who will make it to the top three will walk away with $500, $300 and $200 respectively.
