A RUSAPE airtime vendor is lucky to be alive after he was on Monday night stabbed twice and robbed of cash and other valuables by unknown three assailants who ambushed him on his way home.
James Makolo (38) of House Number 1649, Mabvazuwa who operates at Cheers Nite Club where is into bulk airtime vending was ambushed and pushed from his bicycle and fell down before his assailants pounced on him.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the incident and said Makolo was stabbed once on the back and thigh.
He was assaulted with a stick all over the body before being robbed off $731 cash, 5×20 pack Madison cigarettes, cellphone and three stocktaking books.
“Around 10pm, James Makolo was cycling home from the Central Business District.
Upon reaching Zanu-PF Makoni District offices three unknown people appeared in front of him and pushed him off his bicycle.
“Makolo fell down and one of the suspects held his legs, while the second one stabbed him on the back and once on the thigh with a knife. The third suspect assaulted Makolo with a stick all over the body.
“They forcibly took his property which included a Nokia Lumia 521, 5×20 pack Madison, three stocktaking books and $731. The total value of the stolen items is $789.
“The robbers vanished from the scene leaving Makolo lying on the road. A Good Samaritan took him to Rusape General Hospital where he is admitted. His condition is stable. So far no arrests have been made and investigations are in progress. We appeal to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to come forward,” said Insp Kakohwa.
