Airtime vendor  loses car to robbers

AN airtime vendor who operates at Sakubva Musika was robbed of his vehicle and money by two criminals who had hired him for a trip to Dangamvura Shopping Complex.

The complainant, Edmore Muzama (35) of Devonshire, Sakubva was left in the rain after the suspects drove off in his Toyota Corolla sedan.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the incident which happened on January 28.

He said the complainant was at Sakubva Musika Bus Terminus where he was selling airtime when he was approached by the robbers in the company of a foreign currency dealer only identified as Jimmy.

Jimmy who was together with the robbers told the complainant that the suspects wanted to hire him to Dangamvura Complex. They agreed on US$15 for the trip which was paid.

“The accused persons got into the complainant’s motor vehicle. One was seated on the front passenger’s seat, while the other one sat at the back. They drove to Dangamvura and just after Mukwena Businesss Centre, the suspects told the complainant that they had reached their destination and wanted to disembark.

“They ordered Muzama to surrender everything after one of them pointed a pistol on him,” said Insp Chananda.

Muzama got out of the vehicle leaving the engine running.

He wrestled with one of the robbers outside while shouting for help.

No one came to his rescue as it was raining heavily.

The robbers overpowered him and drove away with his vehicle, leaving him at the crime scene.

Muzama lost an Itel P36 cellphone, $38 500, Netone airtime recharge cards valued at $18 000, Buddie airtime vouchers valued at $27 000 and $4 500 Telecel recharge cards.
