AMBITIOUS Watsomba based Eastern Region Division One outfit Africa Trust has set sights on attaining Premiership promotion in their second year in the second tier league.
Africa Trust first played Division One football last season and 2017 will be their second year in the league.
Africa Trust is owned by youthful businessman Lovemore Mandimutsira who bankrolls the club through his borehole drilling concern – Zimbabwe Africa Trust.
In an interview, Africa Trust coach Arnold Jombe said the team is serious about its Premiership promotion ambitions.
The coach, who is affectionately referred to as ‘Mr De Klerk’ by his players owing to his proclivity to farming allegories while coaching, said they will start their pre season preparations on Monday.
He said old and new players are expected to gather at the James Mwonzora Stadium at St Mathias Tsonso High School when the preparations start on Monday.
“We are going ahead with our pre season preparations on Monday. Old and new players are expected to gather at the James Mwonzora Stadium at St Mathias Tsonzo High School when the preparations start on Monday.
“We are serious about our Premiership promotion ambitions. Our rivals can only take us for granted at their own peril. I think we played well in our debut season in Division One and we are now geared to get promoted into the top flight league,” he said.
Jombe said he has set a target of 30 points after 12 matches.
“I believe we have what is takes. We have talented players within the team that can take us to where want to be. In fact, I have set a target of 30 points after 12 matches. That will put us in contention for the coveted league championship,” he said.
However, in their Premiership promotion aspirations, Africa Trust will have to make do with stiff competition from Buffaloes and Mutare City Rovers who have made clear their ambition to attain Premiership promotion at the end of the season.
