Adventist WISPA visit Chimanimani WISPA in prayer on arrival in Kopa, Chimanimani

Finally Adventist WISPA (Widows and Widowers, and Single Parents Association) have landed. Landed where? On the worst affected area of Chimanimani. This beautiful banana-rich area called Kopa endured the most violent wickedness of Cyclone Idai.

While we must thank everybody else, including government, for coming in with relief aid in the form of food and clothes and other needs, men who lost wives and children or women who lost the same and more, need something bigger than all these things put together; love and sharing the pain in God’s might and glory.

The Adventist widows, widowers and single parents descended on the Kopa escarpment of Chimanimani in Rusitu to give that which is more precious than food and clothes.

Pastors Made and Zvenyere literally forced a smile on the faces of bitter and shattered children, men and women. The story of Job in the Bible brought back hope and focus on the one who knows all the whys and wherefores; God.

Thanks to Mai Evelyn Madya, the chairperson of the regional WISPA, and her footsoldiers. The Lord will reward them for thinking of new widows and widowers in the Kopa village. Enjoy the two pictures that are part of a wonderful pilgrimage to Chimanimani.

This reporter who accompanied the widows who were on a mission to meet new widows was touched by every single testimony of survival and internal torture, but more so by the tear-drawing story of Heriman Kazembe, a school teacher at Ndima Secondary School saw his wife and child swept away by the dreadful floods. Cyclone Idai left him two children to fend for single handed.

For now, let all of us, including the Mutare Central WISPA remember, ‘There is still a lot to do in Chimanimani…not for the survivors of Cyclone Idai alone, but for God as well.
