MANICALAND Province recorded 21 new cases of Covid-19 infections over the last two days, the second highest among all the provinces across the country.

 

Health authorities have expressed concern over laxity by the public to continue observing safety precautions meant to curb the spread of the virus, warning that the Covid-19 threat still lingers.

 

The Ministry of Health and Child Care Situational Report shows that since Monday the country recorded 104 new infections while the seven-day rolling average for cases increased to 113 from 112.

 

According to the report, Manicland recorded 21 cases while Mashonaland East and Bulawayo had 41 and 14 cases respectively. Mashonaland West and Masvingo provinces recorded seven new infections each.

 

Two deaths were recorded during the period under review.

 

The report shows that 472 people received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, bringing the cumulative total to 6 595 319, while 324 got the second jab to bring the total to 4 960 284.

 

For the third dose, 1 057 received the dose to take the cumulative total to 1 298 506. As of Monday, the report adds, there were 23 hospitalised cases and six of them were not vaccinated.

 

The country has recorded 261 829 Covid-19 cases, with 255 027 recoveries and 5 656 deaths.
