34 police officers promoted National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi

A TOTAL of 34 police officers from Manicaland are among the 1 089 that have been promoted to various ranks as the force moves ahead to fill in vacancies caused by retirement, death and dismissals.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the promotions and said the elevated police officers will only put on their new badges after conferment.

Officer Commanding Mutare Central District police, Chief Superintendent Florence Marume was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner; while her Nyanga and Mutare Rural counterparts, Chief Superintendents Susan Chimurema and Temba Mushoriwa were elevated to the same rank.

Acting Officer Commanding Rusape police, Superintendent Godwill Chinyanganya is now a Chief Superintendent; while Detective Chief Inspector Tongai Chakanyuka who was heading the Law and Order Section at the Manicaland Police Provincial Headquarters is now a Superintendent.

Chief Inspector Crispen Makanga who is stationed at Mutare Central District is now a Superintendent together with Chief Inspector Peter Zhanero who heads operations at the provincial office.

Officer-in-charge CID Mutare, Detective Chief Inspector Brighton Ruzvidzo is now a Superintendent.

In Chipinge, Chief Inspector Noah Nyamuzinga has moved a step up to become a Superintendent, the same as Chief Inspector Emmerson Marowa who is stationed at Sakubva Police Station.

Chief Inspector Aquilina Rukunda from Mutare Central is now a Superintendent as well.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa is now a Chief Inspector; while his deputy, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda is now an Inspector.

Current Inspectors who have been elevated to the rank of Chief Inspectors include Mavhu Donga (PUC Manicaland), Rambisai Machuwaire (Mutare Traffic), Michael Badzarigere (Dangamvura), Tapiwa Mushonga (Manicaland PHQ), Morgan Chatikobo (Sakubva), Medson Karidza (Headlands) and Prudence Nyagwaya (Dangamvura).

A member of Mutare Crime Reaction Group and businessman, Mr Thinkmore Muchenje hailed the promotion of the police officers, saying they are being rewarded for their commitment to duty.

“Mutare is fast becoming a better place to live and do business because of the police officers’ dedication to duty. They are always spot on and several arrests of dangerous criminals have been made in the past few months.

“We also want to hail Chief Superintendent (now Assistant Commissioner) Marume for leading from the front. She was always in the thick of things in executing her duties and her efforts should be saluted. We hope her predecessor will rise to the occasion and ensure that Mutare continues enjoying the prevailing peace and tranquillity,” said Mr Muchenje.

Another businessman, Mr Nillan Makuwa said: “Mutare is now one of the best places to do business in the country, thanks to the efforts by the police officers.

‘‘We will continue giving them all the necessary support in executing their duties. We know that at times the police are resource strained, but as the business community we will continue providing whatever material support we can.”
