A MUTARE dealer who was caught in possession of 130 bales of second-hand clothes which had been smuggled from Mozambique was recently ordered to pay $120 000 bail at Mutare Magistrates’ Court.

Tatenda Maramba recently appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi for contravening Section 182 of the Customs and Excise, Chapter 23:04 (Smuggling).

Ms Manhibi ordered Maramba to pay $120 000 bail and he is expected back in the dock next week.

Mr Chris Munyuki prosecuted.

The court heard that on June 17, at Chatora illegal crossing point along the Mozambique border in Burma Valley, Maramba was arrested in possession of 130 bales of second hand clothes.

He was in the company of several accomplices who fled the scene when law enforcement agents arrived.
