A HARARE-BASED man allegedly hired two bouncers to assist him to fatally assault his uncle in Buhera who had assaulted his father over witchcraft allegations.
Simbarashe Chikandiwa (33), together with the bouncers, Trueman Sarupinda (41) and Douglas Chiliminga (47) have since been arrested in connection with the murder of Enias Magusha.
The trio, which was represented by Rusape lawyer, Mr Taurai Khupe of Khupe Law Chambers, appeared before Buhera magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe recently and were not asked to plead.
They were remanded in custody to Friday (July 16) and were also advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Public prosecutor, Mr Wisdom Nyamaropa, told the court that the trio brutally assaulted Magusha with a metal sjambok, machete, truncheon and chains. This resulted in his death.
“On June 29 at Mutorahuku Stream in Choto Village under Chief Nyashanu’s area, the accused persons kidnapped Magusha and bundled him into their vehicle boot. They drove for about 10 kilometers before handcuffing Magusha and tying him to a tree using chains. Thereafter, they took turns to assault him several times all over the body with a sjambok, button stick and a machete. Magusha became unconscious and later died,” said Mr Nyamaropa.
He said the trio was seen by Spancer Chikandiwa and Taurai Mudzimu taking turns to assault Magusha.
“Several scars and wounds were noted on Magusha’s body. The metal syjambok, machete, button stick and chains which the accused persons used to assault and tie Magusha are held as exhibits by the police,” said Mr Nyamaropa.
