AN Odzi man broke his wife’s arm after finding her with a phone number on a piece of paper.
He has since been slapped with a 18-month jail term.
Kudakwashe Chitsiku was convicted on his own guilty plea to the physical abuse charges he was facing when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboa on Monday.
He contravened Section 3(1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act, Chapter 5:16.
However, Kudakwashe will serve an effective 12 months in jail after Mr Ramaboa suspended six months of the sentence for five years on condition of good behaviour.
Mr Chris Munyuki was representing the State.
The court heard that when Kudakwashe found the phone number, he confronted his wife, Christine Chitsiku, as he suspected that she was cheating on him.
“He shouted at her and accused her of infidelity. Kudakwashe assaulted Christine all over the body with a log,” said Mr Munyuki.
Neighbours came to Christine’s rescue and rushed her to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
Christine sustained a broken right hand, an eye injury and bruises all over her body.
Following a police report made by neighbours, Kudakwashe was arrested.
