MORE than 50 pirate taxis and kombis were this afternoon impounded by the police in Mutare for ferrying passengers in defiance of Covid-19 lock down directives.

Officer Commanding Mutare Cenral District Police, Chief Superintendent Florence Marume said the operation code-named ‘No to Mushika-shika’ will continue till normalcy returns on the roads.

With Government yet to re-introduce inter-city public transport in line with Covid-19 safety measures, more traffic cops have been deployed to flush out pirate taxis that are illegally ferrying people.

On March 20, inter-city public transport services were suspended as part of moves to stop the spread of Covic-19.
