Zupco impostor in trouble

Chipo Katsidzira Post Reporter
A 25-year-old Mutare man has landed himself in trouble with the law after he pretended to be a Zupco inspector and demanded to check a ticket book from a bus crew plying intra-city routes in Mutare.

Shamiso Munhande of New Dangare in Sakubva high-density suburb is facing charges of contravening Section 179 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before Miss Tamara Chibindi and was remanded in custody awaiting trial.

Public prosecutor Mr Nyasha Mukonyori represented the State.

Allegations were that on November 4 this year, Munhande boarded a Zupco bus at Saurombe bus terminus in Sakubva.

The court heard that he then faked to be an inspector to Peter Mangasau, who was the bus conductor.

Munhande demanded to see the way bill and the ticket book but Mangasau demanded to see his identity card which he failed to produce, leading to his arrest.

The State argued that for him to have such right he was supposed to have been appointed by Zupco.

In his own defence, Munhande said it was every citizen’s right to monitor the way in which the public transport is being operated and managed
