TWO Mutare innovative entrepreneurs, Mr Tendai Chitowa, and Mr Lovemore Mwandimutsira, who scooped the corporate social responsibility second runner up and rural business person of the year second runner up awards respectively at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce business awards held recently, continue to shine in their respective communities.

Mr Mwandimutsira, who heads Africa Trust, has expanded his business empire to tourism after establishing an accommodation facility and business complex in Watsomba recently while Mr Chitowa, who is the director of Tendai Chitowa Foundation, took a gear up in his philanthropic works and handed over RTGS$50 000 to his former school Sagambe High last week.

He also gave the school a new, full soccer kit, five soccer balls, 15 soccer boots and 15 camping mattresses. He also handed over some stationery that included 26 large and 45 medium world globes, 126 boxes of blue pens, 120 white chalk boxes and 60 coloured chalk boxes.

Mr Chitowa said the gesture was aimed at empowering the girl child in a rural setting. Sagambe High School Under-20 girls’ team recently won the National Association of School Heads (NASH) Mutasa district girls soccer champions.

“We decided not to wait for international donors to assist our own. We decided to share the little that we have with the needy and we are happy that this has come to fruition. Some people are in need of small things to help change their lives, just like the soccer kit for these girls. God willing, we will continue to assist the less privileged,” he said.

And in a major boost for tourism in Watsomba which is located 42km north of Mutare and in Mutasa District, Mr Mwandimutsira recently built accommodation facilities and a business complex that targets corporates and individuals who frequent the fast-growing area. The motel has 12 rooms with ensuites.

“Watsomba is my home and I am happy that I spearheaded the growth of this area through modern infrastructural development. The accommodation facility will be officially opened end of this month and with the blessings of Zimbabwe Tourism Authority we will continue to grow,” he said.

Watsomba, which is an administrative and trading centre for Mutasa, has been lagging behind in terms of infrastructure and the building of the accommodation facilities as well as a business complex will go a long way in achieving its ultimate dream of being accorded a town status.
