A MIDDLE Sabi-based Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) employee fell into a canal and drowned while monitoring it a fortnight ago.

The body of Mr Sharon Mhukayatadza (47) of Zinwa Compound in Middle Sabi was recently discovered by a search party.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident and said the body was discovered in the canal after Mr Mhukayatadza’s colleague, Mr Marteen Mukwindidza and their manager, Mr Darlington Tiri, had failed to locate him.

After teaming up with the police, they formed a search party.

“Mr Mhukayatadza was a pump monitor at Zinwa’s Middle Sabi main pump. On November 13 he commenced work at the pump, but disappeared. At around 10pm, it was discovered that Mr Mhukayatadza was not at his work station after Mr Mukwindidza failed to locate him.

“They looked for Mr Mhukayatadza at his place of residence but he was not there. A missing person report was made at Middle Sabi Police Station and a search party was formed,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

Searches were conducted along the water canals and Mr Mhukayatadza’s body was found in one of the canals.

Inspector Kakohwa said although Mr Mhukayatadza’s body had bruises on the forehead and right shoulder, no foul play was suspected.
