The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has embraced EcoCash payments to provide total convenience to the transacting public in paying their duties and taxes. To this end, Import Duties can now be paid using EcoCash. ZIMRA has, therefore, added the EcoCash payment facility to the other existing modes of payments, which include Electronic Funds Transfers, Swipe and Cash.
How does EcoCash operate on ZIMRA payments?
Clients who want to use EcoCash to pay their taxes and duties can do so as follows:
Client needs to be physically present at the payment point while transacting. ZIMRA does not encourage clients to make EcoCash payments remotely even if they know the merchant code and payment details.
Client should use correct merchant code as advised by the ZIMRA official serving them. Each ZIMRA station has a separate merchant code.
The client needs to ensure that payment is made into the correct merchant code and name to guard against paying into a wrong ZIMRA merchant name/code for this may result in delays in rectifying the transaction as the reversal process generally takes time.
A receipt is issued immediately after every successful EcoCash transaction and the client’s account is updated instantly.
The EcoCash facility is decentralised such that all payments are receipted at the station where the transaction took place.
All ZIMRA stations offer the EcoCash facility.
