MULTI-TALENTED Makanaka Mawere is eying nothing less than a top three finish when the prestigious 2021 Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup bursts into life tomorrow at Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga.

This year’s event will see a total of six Zimbabweans taking part in a field of athletes from different parts of the globe.

At 17, Mawere has represented the country in three sporting disciplines namely swimming, tennis and recently triathlon.

The Hellenic Lower Sixth student said: “I am looking forward to finishing in the top three considering the number of athletes in my category. If I manage first or second position that would be a good achievement for me after previously competing in 2019 and it was my first time as a junior. I finished seventh.”

Greer Wynn is the only Zimbabwean elite participant representing the country in the women category.

In the juniors, Mawere and Jessica Fuller will be representing the nation in the women category while David Knox and Marcel Paulser will be representing the country in the junior men’s category.

Preparations for this year’s event have gone on well, with participants getting a chance for course familiarisation for the greater part of today.

Hosted by Troutbeck Resort for the 14th year in the magnificent Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe for the best multi-sport festival, it promises to be an action-packed weekend of swimming, cycling and running with elite athletes vying for the Troutbeck Crown in the 2021 Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup Troutbeck.

Corporate Teams will vie for top spot in the Bonaqua Cimas i-Go Corporate Challenge finale.

The event is sponsored by Schweppes Zimbabwe, Coca-Cola Africa, Bon Marche, Cimas i-Go, Rooneys, Toyota Zimbabwe, African Sun Hotels and Resorts as well as Troutbeck Inn Resort
Corporate.

Partners such as Safeguard Zimbabwe, Swift Unifreight, Flo Petroleum, Fivet and Evolution Insurance Company are also part of the event.
