ELECTIONS to choose the new ZIFA national and regional leaders are drawing closer, with the Normalisation Committee this week issuing a public notice of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that will draw the roadmap and timelines for the elections.
Electioneering is already in full swing ahead of the ZIFA elections across the country, with aspiring candidates throwing their hats in the ring to lead the four football regional bodies, especially the beleaguered Eastern Region.
The ZIFA national board elections can only be held at the latest in January 2025, following FIFA’s recent decision to extend the mandate of the Normalisation Committee, which has the mandated to organise the plebiscite.
The Normalisation Committee has to conduct elections from the area zones, and round off the process by convening an elective congress to elect the substantive ZIFA president and executive committee.
This week, the Normalisation Committee gave an AGM notice scheduled for October 18.
“In accordance with the current ZIFA statutes (Article 27), a notice is hereby given to all ZIFA members of an Annual General Meeting (AGM), and we are pleased to give you the following information on the organisation of the AGM. “The Annual General Meeting will be held in Harare, at Manna Resort, on the 18th of October 2024, commencing at 9am prompt. The Annual General Meeting shall be attended by the following number of delegates in accordance with Article 21. The Congress is composed of 60 delegates,” the notice in part.
The list of delegates outlined include one delegate for each of the 18 clubs that make up the Premier Soccer League, Northern Region Division One League, Southern Region Division One League, Eastern Region Division One League and Central Region Division One League will each second four delegates, while
two delegates will also be drawn from each of the following bodies – the National Association of Primary School leagues, National Association of Secondary School leagues, National Association of Tertiary Institutions leagues and Zimbabwe Women Soccer League.
Bulawayo Provincial League, Harare Provincial League, Manicaland Provincial League, Mashonaland Central Provincial League, Mashonaland East Provincial League, Mashonaland West Provincial League, Masvingo Provincial League, Matabeleland South Provincial League, Matabeleland North Provincial League, Midlands Provincial League, four Area Zones, Beach Football Leagues and Futsal Football Leagues will each be represented by one delegate.
According to Article 24, member bodies will exercise their voting rights through their official representations, who takes part in the AGM debates.
A delegate casts a single vote, and cannot represent an additional member or body.
Also present will be the Normalisation Committee, auditors, ZIFA secretariat, Sports and Recreation Commission and Zimbabwe Olympic Committee representatives.
