A 27-year-old Honde Valley woman is on the run after she allegedly killed her three-weeks old baby.

Precious Simango of Chapupuri Village, under Chief Mutasa was summoned to appear at the Mutasa Magistrates Court on Monday but she defaulted, prompting Mr Innocent Bepura to issue a warrant of arrest.

The accused is charged with infanticide as defined in Section 48(1)(b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.

Circumstances to the case are that on October 10 at around 7 am at Dumba Business Centre, the accused person went to a blair toilet where she threw baby clothes in the pit.

She was seen by Tatenda Samanga who became suspicious and questioned her but he got an unsatisfactory answer from the accused.

Samanga got into the toilet where he saw some baby clothes.

He went outside, searched the accused person’s bag and found a baby’s birth card which indicated that a baby was born on September 26 but the accused person had no child with her.

When asked where she had left the three-weeks old baby, the accused disclosed that the infant had died four days ago and was buried in Mutasa central area.

Simango reported the matter to Ruda Police Station in Honde Valley as he was suspecting foul play.

On the same day, Constable Zvavashe who was handling the case, arrived at the scene and interrogated the accused person who disclosed that she had dumped the child in the bush near Samanga Clinic.

She then led Cst Zvavashe to the scene where they recovered the corpse.

She was subsequently arrested.
