Just like the Biblical Legion who was possessed by many demons, a Marange woman is carrying the burden of being the medium of five family members’ avenging spirits.

The five died last year under unclear circumstances.

The spirits are taking turns to manifest through Bernadette Masvaure, naming and shaming their alleged killers.

The Masvaure family is at odds with each other, with three siblings — Oliver, Henry and Kingdom — standing accused of being responsible for the mysterious deaths haunting the family.

Through Oliver’s daughter, Bernadette, the spirits are demanding appeasement and destruction of the paraphernalia that is allegedly in possession of the ‘evil’ trio.

All hell broke loose last week on Saturday when the family visited Madzibaba Kelvin ‘Portridge’ Munhumumwe’s shrine in Marange in search of answers on the recent mysterious deaths.

As they arrived at Madzibaba Portridge’s shrine, Bernadette fell into a trance and her late brother Handsome’s spirit manifested through her.

Handsome died on January 9.

His spirit claimed that his father and two uncles were killing family members and using their spirits to acquire farming prowess (divisi). The spirit went on to tell the gathered family members the modus operandi used by the trio in killing people.

“They write someone’s name on a piece of paper and put it in their small bottle. When they point their ‘gun’ on the bottle, the person dies instantly. That is how I died and that is how Virginia, Lucia, James and Tarungura lost their lives,” said the spirit.

He also said 10 other people met their deaths the same way.

As soon as Handsome’s spirit was done, four other spirits of the late Masvaure family members manifested through Bernadette, one after the other.

All of them accused the three brothers of killing them and demanded appeasement.

After the expose, Oliver confessed to killing his son Handsome, as well as his nephews. He also said he keeps charms at his homestead and Chief Marange’s advisor, Wilson Madara, ordered their extraction.

Speaking to The Weekender, Oliver’s daughter Bridget Masvaure said she was afraid that she might be living on borrowed time as her uncles allegedly want her dead.

“The spirits of my dead relatives have told us that I am the next in line, that l am supposed to die on Friday (today),” she said, adding that she hopes Madzibaba Portridge’s prayers will protect her.

“My father told us that there was a snake and charms in the tool-box. He promised to cooperate and ensure that the charms are destroyed. We are waiting for the day when those tools will be destroyed,” said Bridget.

Madzibaba Portridge will lead the process.

Another family member, Tommy Masvaure, said the family has suffered enough.

“Their tools of trade must be extracted from their homes for peace to prevail. We are all living in fear. The family is now a laughing stock in the community because of these men’s evil deeds,” said Tommy.

But Oliver blamed his wife for the family’s suffering, accusing her of refusing to release their ‘tool-box’.
