KING of Marabi music, Kireni Zulu and Marabi Queens return to Mutare tomorrow (Saturday) for a potentially-intriguing show dubbed “Summer Jazz Weekend”.

 

The venue, popularly known as Creche Yemadhara, has transformed into an open air joint and now boasts of a gazebo which is ideal for hosting open air gigs.

 

Zulu, who is popular for comic traits through lyrics in songs, boasts of sing along songs such as Ndichakuvaraidza, Kugeza, Ndidzorere Mari Yangu, Murume Wangu, Handichada and Kunhonga.

 

He said he will also play new tracks from his forthcoming album.

 

He will be backed by resident deejays Candyman and Governor as well as Harare-based chanter, Technique.

Veteran deejay Ranga T (Godfather) will for the first time play at the upmarket joint as he headlines the inaugural “Best of Both Worlds” gig tomorrow.

 

He will feature on the turntables from 7pm and he will be supported by resident deejay Frazer.

Villa Spot

 

Prominent wheel-spinners from Zimpapers’ owned radio station, StarFm, DJ Tanaman and DJ Eve descends on Dangamvura, Mutare, for a potentially-explosive fiesta scheduled for Saturday.

 

The open air joint reverberates into song and dance as a local dance group as well as resident deejays Slimphat, Brizz, Famous and Shamie Dee will support the two guest deejays till Sunday.

 

Ranga T will take over on Sunday for the Old Skool session.

Club Mandisa

 

Harare-based jiti musician, Malax and Afro Blacks family tonight this weekend performs in Mutare for the first time and seeks to leave a mark.

 

The 12-member group has promised to play renditions of Jiti proponents such as Bundu Boys.

The Place

 

Mutare-based jazz outfit, Sunrise Band is back with a bang and is set to reintroduce themselves to jazz lovers when they perform at the upmarket joint this weekend.

 

The band, led by versatile guitarist, Joseph Makureya, will introduce new band members and songs from their forthcoming album due for release this December.

Sun City (Sakubva)

 

Resident sungura and Afro-jazz band, Bako Band entertains fans with renditions and own compositions this weekend.

 

The 12-member group will entertain revellers with old and new school music from various local and international artistes.

 

The group will be backed by wheel spinners, Checkmaster and Tony Lee, who will be on rotation.
