IN an effort to promote sanitation and hygiene as crucial elements of human health, Ngaone and Chichichi clinics in Ward Two of Chipinge rural will receive assistance from development partners to improve sanitation facilities at the health institutions.

Oxfam, Christian Aid and Africa Ahead have pledged to help in improving water reticulation and the construction of toilets at the two clinics.

Ward Two councillor, Councillor Agrippa Mayanga, said they have already received US$4 000 for the project. Construction material has already been delivered to the sites.

“We are receiving assistance from the three organisations as part of efforts to provide water, sanitation and hygiene in line with public health requirements. The community is grateful for the helping hand they have received, which will also go a long way in bringing relief to both patients and staff at the two clinics.

“Besides the water system that will see clean and safe water readily available, they will also construct staff accommodation, while expecting mothers’ maternity waiting shelters will also get a facelift,” said Councillor Mayanga.

He added that villagers are involved in the projects through active participation as they are providing labour through digging trenches.

Councillor Mayanga said similar water, sanitation and hygiene projects will be rolled out to other parts of the ward.
