VENDORS in Mutare have welcomed the ongoing Covid-19 national vaccination programme, with some who operate at Chikanga and Dangamvura markets expressing keen interest to get inoculated while others have already received the jab.

Government has accelerated the vaccination exercise to help curb the infection rates, giving priority to markets and other places that are highly frequented by people like markets, depots where farmers deliver crops, border towns and hotspots.

Vendors interviewed by The Manica Post said vaccination was important and they were willing to take the doses.

“I have taken advantage of the ongoing vaccination programme to get inoculated with the first dose and now waiting to receive the second one in the interest of protecting myself and others. I urge others who have not yet done so to go for vaccination,” said Mr Garikayi Mupemba.

It has also been established that some vendors who were initially reluctant to get vaccinated were now queuing up for the jabs in the face of rising infection cases and deaths.

The Manica Post observed that vendors at both Chikanga and Dangamvura markets are generally adhering to World Health Organisation guidelines, with most of them in Chikanga having hand sanitisers at their stalls despite that there is a sanitisation area at the entrance.

However, some customers are not practising social distancing while others are not wearing face masks correctly.
