ZIMBABWE’S accelerated vaccination programme has scored another major milestone, with the two millionth person being inoculated on Thursday.

By last night, 1 400 905 people had received the first dose while 671 155 had taken the second jab to bring the cumulative total to 2 072 060.

The total is just over 10 percent of the planned 20 million doses required to vaccinate a minimum of 10 million people in order to achieve herd immunity.

Following the arrival of 2.5 million doses in two batches at the end of last month, the vaccination exercise went a gear up.

Another two million doses are expected tomorrow afternoon.

Close to 50 000 were being inoculated a day in the week between last Friday and Thursday this week.

Indications are also that the enhanced Level Four lockdown is bearing fruit by taming the third wave of the pandemic although a lot still needs to be done in stemming the tide of infections.
