THE Zimbabwe Defense Forces (ZDF) officers are set to benefit from 449 urban residential stands in Dangamvura East, Mutare.

Through the ZDF benefit fund program, 449 residential stands in Dangamvura East have been allocated and construction will be done in batches of 25.

The construction of the first batch has already started.

Speaking to The Manica Post, Lieutenant Colonel Farai Brian Rwizi, who is responsible for loans and projects with the ZDF benefit fund, said construction was on track.

“We intend to move with speed. We are hoping to finish the construction of all the houses in the next three years.

“A period of three years will ensure that quality and required standards are met in the construction.

“The construction has just started and it is our anticipation that in the stipulated three years we will be able to make sure that all the beneficiaries have roof under their heads, courtesy of the scheme,” he said.

The initiative of allocating and building houses for ZDF officers is a step towards improving the welfare of the officers and their families.

“We would like our officers to have better living standards.

“Some want to be based in urban areas and we have initiated the idea of constructing houses in urban areas like Dangamvura,” said Lt Col Rwizi.

Meanwhile speaking just before this year’s Heroes and Defense Forces Day commemorations, Lieutenant General Chimonyo said people of Zimbabwe should know that (ZDF) are pillars and guarantors of peace and security in Zimbabwe.

The spirited displays and drills by the ZDF officers charmed Mutare residents at Sakubva Stadium.
