Tyre trading company Pamela Tyres has diversified into the manufacturing of latex gloves as the fight against Covid-19 intensifies.

The company is currently producing 3 000 pairs of latex gloves every day.

Increase production is expected in the near future. Pamela Tyres managing director, Mr Walter Nyaungwe, said the move will help the country reduce its import bill.

“We use local raw materials from mining companies to make the gloves. The only material we are importing from South Africa is the latex. This is cheaper than importing the actual product,” he said.

Mr Nyaungwe said the pandemic provided a wake-up call for businesses to redesign their operations, restructure and embrace new business opportunities.

“Covid-19 made us realise that we must encourage and incentivise innovation and creativity in all aspects of our lives so we are just moving with the times. Producing latex gloves is our small way of contributing towards the Covid-19 fight,” he said.
